Where to take Dad for next Father’s Day brunch

Admit it, the last time you took dad to that super-fun-cool-hipster joint you love to hit for breakfast, he spent most of your bonding time scrambling uncomfortably on his milk crate seat and puzzling over what exactly a ‘quinoa’ was.

This Father’s Day, take him out for a brunch he’ll really enjoy, with not a chia seed pudding in sight but still just hipster friendly enough that you don’t have be satisfied with plain old eggs benedict for breakfast. We’ve got a couple of our favourite dad friendly (but not dad joke friendly) venues right here.

Willow & Spoon | Alderly

You know Dad will probably order the bacon and eggs on sourdough with house made chunky tomato relish, but if he’s feeling a little more adventurous, make him try the beef cheek chilli con carne. And if you’re sweet tooth’s a-callin but your usual quinoa porridge order won’t fly here, how about going overboard with chocolate brownie pancake stack? No? Ok, maybe stick to the poached eggs, hummus and dukkah on barley toast.

The Moray Café | New Farm

Tempt dad away from the idea of breakfast in bed (who wants to cook on a Sunday?) with the promise of fried chicken waffles at The Moray Cafe. But if he’s a dedicated eggs benny fan, he can get it with pulled pork and truffle hollandaise at this shady spot. More fried chicken waffles for you! Though we’re pretty sure he could be tempted into a coffee caramel mason jar milkshake.

New Farmer’s Kitchen | New Farm

Ok, there’s a chia pudding on the menu here, but don’t worry, Dad won’t notice because he’ll be too busy looking at the view. Draw his attention away from it and suggest a cheesy croquet monsieur instead, or a big pile of eggs, bacon, roast tomato, chipolata, mushroom and sourdough toast.

Spicer’s Balfour Kitchen | New Farm

Feel like a fine dining experience for brunch (ie. Mum’s paying)? Treat Dad to the cider braised ham with poached eggs, spinach and cherry tomatoes on the Spicer’s Balfour balcony while you tuck into the new brekky trend you’ve been Insta-drooling over – crumpets.

Artie & Mai | Albion

For the dads who need a well deserved sleep in, Artie & Mai’s breakfast menu is available all. Damn. Day. Also – their banoffee French toast comes with candied bacon ice cream. If your dad can go past that, well, maybe you should ask him if you were adopted. Clearly you didn’t get your foodie genes from him.

Famished on Frasers | Ashgrove

With all the breakfast staples done well here, you had better make sure Dad is famished before setting him on his pulled pork shoulder jaffle. We’re talking a fried egg, crumbled cheddar and hollandaise sauce on thick, housemade, wholegrain toast. We bet he wouldn’t say no to the pork belly eggs benedict though.

Wild Canary | Brookefield

With plenty of produce grown in their very own garden, Wild Canary will ensure Mum won’t be alarmed at what ends up on Dad’s plate for this brunch. Their menu embraces the seasons with a rotating menu dependent on what’s flourishing, like warm spiced apple bread with honey, or the grilled mushrooms with polenta, poached eggs and feta.

Affinity | Paddington

Want a big family brunch but not the big pile of dishes that goes with it? Sit down to a breakfast banquet at Affinity, with a huge spread of eggs, bacon, tomato, mushrooms, sweet potato hash, avocado bruschetta and even a couple of pancakes! Coffee and juice included of course, and all just $30 pp.

Maybe you can even teach Dad how to ‘gram his yolk porn.
